Padre Dam's Customer Service Center was rededicated as the August A. Caires Customer Service Center at the July 19 Board Meeting. Padre Dam's Board recognized Director Caires for his outstanding public service to the District, community and San Diego region.
Director Caires has been with the District for more than 29 years, serving 13 years as the District's General Manager before his appointment to the Board where he continues to serve in his fourth four-year term. Additionally, he serves as Padre Dam's representative on the East County Advanced Water Purification Joint Powers Authority Board of Directors.
During his tenure as General Manager, Caires played a pivotal role in gaining Board approval to build a new Customer Service Center at Santee Lakes in order to co-locate the District’s Administration offices with the Operations facilities already located at Santee Lakes. The sale of the Woodside property generated enough funds to cover the costs of the Customer Service Center, which Director Caires named to appropriately recognize the District’s responsibility to our customers. He was deeply involved in the construction which began in 2004 and was completed in 2005, making him the first General Manager to occupy it.
