[ARCHIVED] Fats, Oils and Grease or FOG can cause your pipes to clog!

Images of Thanksgiving food on a table with a message to protect your pipes.

As we spend more time entertaining around the holidays, it may be tempting to pour fats, oils and grease or FOG down the drain.  Resist that temptation to avoid a sewer clog. FOG can cause a clog. When FOG enters your plumbing and congeals together, your plumbing becomes plugged up - kind of like clogged arteries in your body. It can also make its way into the wastewater collection system and cause blockages in Padre Dam's infrastructure.  Common drain-blocking foods may include cooking oil, gravy, salad dressing and meat trimmings. The best way to dispose of FOG is in the trash.
