Emergency Assistance Program for Rent and Utilities

Have you been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and need help with rent or utilities?

The County of San Diego’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) helps eligible households who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program provides payment assistance for renters behind on rent and utility payments.

Eligibility Criteria Includes:

  • Household income must be at or below 80% Area Median Income.
  • Household must have experienced a financial hardship directly related to COVID-19.
  • Household is at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
  • Household must not receive any other forms of rental subsidy such as Section 8 or other rental assistance programs, rapid rehousing assistance, or rental assistance from non-profit agencies.

Renters can apply online beginning on March 2, 2021 through March 16, 2021. For more information on the ERAP Program and to apply, visit www.sdhcd.org. If you do not have internet access and need assistance in completing the application, call (858) 694-4801. A County representative will be able to assist you.
