All about our water
Ninety percent of the water in your San Diego
County home comes from Northern California and the Colorado
River through 686 miles of aqueduct and 1,138 miles of
pipeline. Padre Dam has a large infrastructure of its own,
including 317 miles of water mains -- enough pipe to stretch
from San Diego to Phoenix.
Even though it takes a lot of infrastructure, skilled
professionals and money to bring water to sunny San Diego, when
you account for inflation, water rates today are about the same
as they were 40 years ago. And our water tastes great right out
of the tap. That quality is the result of >
Innovative engineering >
we complete over $4 million in improvements to our water system
every year to assure a safe, reliable and great tasting water
supply.
Meticulous operations >
we skillfully manage the circulation -- that's right, the
freshness -- of the 17 million gallons of water our customers
use every day.
Quality control >
we test our water quality at
50 different locations in our
service area every week.
