Community leadership
Our employees take great pride in the leadership role we play in the schools, chambers of commerce and service clubs of the communities we serve. What we're most proud of, however, is our contribution to the community through our ownership and operation of Santee Lakes.

Economic leadership
In April 2002, our Board of Directors approved 21 Projects for the 21st Century, a $10.7 million master plan for Santee Lakes to bring extreme athletes, families and children to the most exciting destination in San Diego County for fitness and competition, family recreation, and special events.

Over the next four years, we will build new campground facilities, an extensive trail network for running, inline skating, cycling and mountain biking, a swimming hole with the best beach in East County, and a lodge with a coffee house and grill. And all of this will happen within a larger plan to restore Santee Lakes' 190 acres of open space into a pristine, natural habitat for both wildlife and solitude seekers.

Since Santee Lakes receives no funding from water or sewer rates, or property taxes, the $10.7 million 21/21 Plan will be financed with park revenues over 20 years. The first project in the plan, the campground expansion, will provide the majority of the funding for the other 20 projects.

With the new direction comes a new name, Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, which accurately reflects both our recreational and environmental vision. When the 21/21 master plan is completed, Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve will be a regional recreation destination, stimulating the type of weekend, regional tourism economy enjoyed by Julian, Ramona and similar San Diego County destinations.
